SonoSim has released some exciting new features this month! Keep scrolling to read more details or skip ahead by using the links below.

For Everyone: New virtual patients added to provide more body model variation in the SonoSimulator®

For Instructors: Quickly find pathology within SonoSim scanning cases with new Case Findings

For SonoSim LiveScan Members: Remotely control patient vitals and pathophysiologic states in SonoSim LiveScan scenarios

Also for SonoSim LiveScan Members: New pediatric pulmonary content added to CaseBuilder

For DMS Members: New complete liver protocol scanning cases and matching assignment

Eight New Virtual Patients

To enhance realism and variation in the ultrasound scanning experience, SonoSim has eight new virtual patients – 4 adult female, 4 adult male. We are also actively working to add virtual pediatric and infant patients.

Find Pathology Faster with Case Findings

With the new web-based Case Findings tool, instructors can quickly find pathology within SonoSimulator scanning cases. Simply search what you’re looking for and all matching results will appear.

Not sure what to search for? You can browse by module, clicking on a title to read each case’s findings.

Control SonoSim LiveScan Scenario Parameters with CaseController

SonoSim LiveScan has a new feature. CaseController allows you to better assess your learner’s ability to integrate ultrasound findings into medical decision-making by more dynamic and realistic scenarios..

Remotely adjust patients’ vital signs and pathophysiologic states in real-time, allowing for dynamic changes in response to simulated learner interventions. You also have remote control over SonoSim features that enhance the learning experience, such as displaying expert-narrated interpretation video.

For a brief walkthrough, watch the video.

New Pediatric Lung Content added to the CaseBuilder Library

New pediatric lung content has been added to CaseBuilder. Pathologies include:
  • Air bronchograms
  • Bacterial pneumonia
  • Cardiogenic pulmonary edema
  • Coalescent b-lines (white lung appearance)
  • Respiratory distress syndrome
  • Pleural effusion
  • Severe alveolar interstitial syndrome
  • Subpleural consolidations
  • Thickened and irregular pleurae
If you’re an instructor, you can read more about these cases with the new Case Findings tool (select “SonoSim LiveScan” in the category dropdown and then click “CaseBuilder Library”).

Practice the Liver Protocol With Our New DMS Protocol Scanning Case

Specifically designed to align with AIUM practice parameters and CAAHEP guidelines, our new liver protocol cases allow learners to perform comprehensive scanning on an anatomically normal liver. Learners can scan right, left, and caudate lobes, and see views including lateral, medial, superior, middle, and inferior segments of the liver. This scanning protocol teaches learners to screen for a variety of hepatic pathologies.

To help guide the student learning experience, instructors can download the corresponding DMS Protocol Assignment within Performance Tracker.

What are DMS Protocol Assignments? These are SonoSim-created learning assignments that ask learners to acquire, annotate, and save ultrasound images showing specific views and structures, in accordance with AIUM scanning protocols.

Additionally, instructors can read more about these cases with the new Case Findings tool (select “DMS Protocol” in the category dropdown and then click “DMS Liver Abdomen”).
