MacOS Catalina Update
This update pertains to all Mac users. PC users will not be affected.
What is the Apple update and macOS Catalina all about?
In October 2019, Apple will be releasing its latest operating system called macOS Catalina. This new operating system will only support 64-bit applications.
How does the Apple update affect me?
Specific Mac users will need to install a software patch for SonoSim to operate. We will be emailing respective users the patch directly.
Other users will receive an upgrade email that will automatically include the patch. To upgrade your SonoSim Ultrasound Training Solution, please plug in your SonoSim Probe while connected to the Internet and follow the upgrade instructions.
Why wouldn’t my SonoSim Ultrasound Training Solution work automatically with the new Mac update?
Beginning with software version 2.27.0, the SonoSim Ultrasound Training Solution runs as a 64-bit application. However, a previously installed third-party application called Mono, which was used to run Microsoft .Net applications on a Mac, is a 32-bit application. All software versions prior to 2.29.2 have this dependency and are not supported by macOS Catalina.
Thus, SonoSim has developed a software patch to install a 64-bit version of this dependency for versions 2.27.0 through 2.29.1 and ensure that all of our members have uninterrupted access. Version 2.29.2 has been updated to use the 64-bit version of Mono. Going forward, all of our new versions of SonoSim will support macOS Catalina.
