FoCUS Advanced Clinical Ultrasound Training Part 1

A growing body of evidence supports the use of focused cardiac ultrasound by non-cardiologists (sometimes referred to as "point-of-care echocardiography" or "focused echocardiography") as a way of rapidly evaluating and caring for hospital-based and ambulatory patients. FoCUS Advanced Clinical Ultrasound Training Part 1 reviews echocardiography views, including those from the parasternal, subcostal, apical, and suprasternal notch windows. Doppler adjuncts, including color and spectral Doppler, are also discussed. Doppler-mode imaging indications, pitfalls, and limitations in regard to cardiac ultrasound are explained. Finally, stroke-volume measurement, determining cardiac output, and measuring pulmonary artery systolic pressure are covered.

This is the first part in a 2 part set. See FoCUS Advanced Clinical Ultrasound Training Part 2 for more.

How it Works

Each SonoSim module contains:

  • A Didactic, Cloud-Based, Multimedia Course
  • Real-Time Knowledge Checks & a Mastery Test
  • A Series of Hands-On, Real Patient Scanning Cases Accessed with the SonoSimulator® Ultrasound Probe

The SonoSimulator Ultrasound Probe is a one-time purchase and is your access key to the SonoSim modules you license annually. License to each module is purchased in the first year, and maintained with an annual membership fee. Keep scanning and maintain all your member benefits, including annual access to all your modules, with your low annual membership fee of $295 (complimentary in your first year).

Course Highlights

SonoSim cloud-based, multimedia, didactic courses are created by leading ultrasound experts, and are internet accessible immediately after purchase, on any device. There are knowledge checks with real-time feedback throughout each course, as well as a Mastery Test that is automatically graded.

The course in this module covers topics including:

  • Traditional Echocardiographic Convention
  • Ultrasound Imaging Windows for FoCUS
  • The Use of Color and Spectral Doppler in FoCUS
  • Hemodynamics
  • Pulmonary Artery Pressure Measurements
  • Case Studies including Cardiac Output and Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Tips & Pitfalls in Performing Focused Cardiac Ultrasound ( FoCUS )

SonoSimulator Scanning Cases

The SonoSimulator® helps develop and maintain the critical visuomotor and visuospatial skills that are central to image acquisition and interpretation with real patient imagery, expert tutorials on-demand, and real-time feedback on success.

The 10 real patient scanning cases in this module include and cover:

  • Patient Types: Adult Only, Male & Female
  • Relevant Findings/Pathology: Tricuspid Regurgitation, Aortic Regurgitation, Mitral Regurgitation and Aortic Stenosis, Dilated and Concentric Ventricular Hypertrophy, Cardiomyopathies, Pulmonary Hypertension, Use of IVC to Estimate Right Atrial Pressures
  • Doppler & Imaging Modes: Color-Flow Doppler, Continuous-Wave Doppler, Pulsed-Wave Doppler, M-Mode
  • Scanning Approaches: Parasternal, Apical, IVC, Subcostal, Suprasternal
  • Transducer Types: Phased Array
  • Special Case Features: Cardiac Calipers, Anatomic Layer Removal

Continued Medical Education
