An Ultrasound Education Platform to Support OB/GYN Residency Programs
Built to help residents & fellows master the consensus-based curriculum objectives required for obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound training in a standardized manner.

Bring Consistency to OB/GYN Ultrasound Training
Build the ultrasound skills residents need, structured around consensus obstetric and gynecologic curriculum and competency assessment tools.
Ultrasound is central to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology, but with growing educational demands and limited residency hours, the dedicated time and resources needed to bring learners to competency have steadily declined. To address this, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) led a multi-society task force that established OB/GYN consensus-based curriculum and competency standards* covering everything from first-trimester imaging to gynecologic ultrasound. Residents are expected to capture and document the standard images for each examination and to distinguish normal anatomy from pathology across the full range of obstetric and gynecologic studies defined in the AIUM practice parameters. Yet most programs contend with limited faculty time, unpredictable access to the right pathology, and the challenge of giving every resident the same repeatable, hands-on practice.1, 2.
For OB/GYN programs, this shift means rethinking how ultrasound competency is taught, assessed, and maintained.
- Training spans the full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound, from ultrasound physics, to first-, second-, and third-trimester imaging to fetal biometry, ectopic pregnancy, fetal anatomy, placental and umbilical abnormalities, multifetal gestation, pregnancy-related complications, IUD evaluation, abnormal uterine bleeding, and benign and malignant uterine and adnexal pathology.
- Residents need consistent, repeatable scanning practice across pathologic cases they may rarely encounter at the right moment in clinic
- Faculty need scalable tools to teach, assess, and track competency the same way for every resident
Meeting these expectations calls for tools built to teach and assess obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound at scale.

Build Ultrasound Competency Across Your OB/GYN Program
Give learners standardized access to hands-on practice and real pathologic cases that classroom and scan lab learning can't provide.
As OB/GYN programs work to deliver ultrasound training in a consistent, structured way, they also need to prepare residents to apply those skills in actual clinical practice. That means giving every resident & fellow the opportunity to engage in deliberate practice across the spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic cases they are expected to recognize, including pathologic conditions they have not encountered at the bedside.

Many programs use the SonoSim Ecosystem to standardize ultrasound education, expand access to pathology, and give residents the scanning experience they need to use ultrasound confidently in obstetric and gynecologic care.
Programs use SonoSim to deliver:
- Standardized exposure to a broad library of real pathologic scanning cases, via the SonoSimulator® so every learner developes image acquisition and interpretation skills across requisite normal and abnormal findings
- Unlimited access to virtual, hands-on scanning experience with real pathology, giving residents consistent, deliberate practice independent of which patients arrive in clinic
- Performance tracking of didactic progress, knowledge assessment, and scanning experiences, so faculty can follow each resident's progress toward competency
Simplify Delivery of OB/GYN Ultrasound Education for Faculty
Tools to help educators teach, assess, and scale OB/GYN ultrasound training
OB/GYN faculty obviously play the most central role in building and sustaining ultrasound education within residency programs. They are expected to deliver high-quality bedside ultrasound education, develop resident competency, and ensure consistent training across resident classes, despite growing clinical workloads and finite educational resources.
SonoSim provides the tools and resources to support faculty development, curriculum implementation, and program-wide standardization, helping OB/GYN programs deliver effective and scalable ultrasound education.

The SonoSim Ecosystem supports OB/GYN programs with:
- A comprehensive series of OB/GYN didactic courses covering curricular requirements
- Standardized access to real pathologic scanning cases using the SonoSimulator®
- Built-in assessment tools to support competency evaluation and resident progression
- Progress tracking and reporting to monitor resident development across cohorts
- A structured & proven† approach that delivers the essential elements required to develop ultrasound competency across obstetric and gynecologic imaging

Bring OB/GYN Ultrasound into Clinical Decision-Making with SonoSim LiveScan®
Bring obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound to the bedside in your simulations
SonoSim LiveScan extends ultrasound education beyond the screen, letting programs see how residents apply scanning skills in realistic, dynamic clinical situations. By combining live scanning with simulated pathology and evolving patient conditions, SonoSim LiveScan helps faculty evaluate clinical reasoning, image acquisition, and decision-making the way they happen in real obstetric and gynecologic care.

-
Run realistic, live scenarios that bring obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound into clinical decision-making
- Instantly transform any manikin or live volunteer into a "patient" with real pathology, from early-pregnancy complications to late-stage obstetric findings
- Add another layer of realism by adjusting patient conditions in real time as residents work through a case
Track and Verify Ultrasound Competency Across Your Program
See where every resident stands on the path to competency
OB/GYN programs need a clear view of where every resident stands on the path to ultrasound competency. SonoSim gives faculty performance tracking and assessment at the cohort, class, and individual level, so you can monitor progress, provide feedback, and document competency against the curriculum objectives residents are expected to meet. Built-in image review lets faculty assess the scans residents capture, and each resident builds a portfolio of images and scores to demonstrate their proficiency.

OB/GYN Ultrasound Content Mapped to AIUM OB/GYN Consensus Practice Parameters
A complete curriculum that takes residents from foundational skills to advanced diagnostic skills
SonoSim supports OB/GYN ultrasound education across the full obstetric and gynecologic curriculum, including normal findings, first-, second-, and third-trimester pregnancy, as well as advanced gynecologic pathology scanning. Content is structured to support standardized, competency-based training and is mapped to the consensus-based curriculum objectives established for OBGYN ultrasound in residency programs.
Fully mapped to the AIUM OB/GYN practice parameters.
Consensus curriculum endorsed by AIUM, SMFM, ACOG, ISUOG, and SDMS, recognized by ACR and SRU, and supported by ACOG and CREOG.
