These mappings are of SonoSim content to published ultrasound standards and consensus guidelines. Each document below pairs the requirements of a specific society's guidelines or standards with the SonoSim courses, SonoSimulator® scanning cases, and assessments that cover them.
These mappings are built for educators who could benefit from this support in building curriculum and mapping appropriate coursework, including sonography program directors building or expanding curricula or preparing for accreditation review, as well as residency & fellowship programs building point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) curricula, and medical school course directors integrating ultrasound into the preclinical years.
The collection includes 18 mappings spanning diagnostic medical sonography, undergraduate medical education, and a variety of residency and fellowship programs, such as emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, critical care, obstetrics and gynecology, and more. Each mapping is a standalone document you can download, print, and share with your curriculum committee. Most programs use them in one of three ways.
Confirming alignment. Program directors preparing for accreditation or program review use the mapping to show reviewers which requirements are addressed and where. The document follows the standard's structure, so it can sit alongside your existing materials.
Planning a new curriculum. Faculty building an ultrasound curriculum from scratch can use the mapping as a starting outline. It shows what a published standard expects, then identifies the SonoSim content that covers each element.
Evaluating SonoSim. The mapping demonstrates overage against the standards, or requirements you are accountable for, and how SonoSim can support your efforts with our content and platform.

Which ultrasound curriculum standards does SonoSim map to?
To date, SonoSim has published 18 curriculum mappings covering standards from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU), and the Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER). International standards from Sonography Canada, the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM), the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), the Canadian Internal Medicine Ultrasound (CIMUS) group, and the Canadian Ultrasound Consensus for Undergraduate Medical Education Group are also included.

The documents are organized around the structure of the standard itself rather than around the SonoSim catalog, so you can work through them the same way a reviewer would.
Are SonoSim curriculum mappings free to download?
Yes. Every mapping on this page is a free PDF download with no form to complete and no account required. You do not need a SonoSim subscription to view them.
Do the mappings cover standards outside the United States?
Yes. Five of the 18 mappings address non-US standards for Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe. These include standards published by Sonography Canada for diagnostic medical sonography, EUSEM and RCEM for emergency medicine, the Canadian Internal Medicine Ultrasound group for internal medicine, and the Canadian Ultrasound Consensus for Undergraduate Medical Education Group for medical students.
Can these mappings support accreditation or program review?
They are designed to help programs assess how SonoSim content can augment and supporttheir ultrasound curriculum, as well as how well SonoSim aligns to a published standard. This can be helpful when undergoing accreditation or program review. However, accreditation requirements change over time, so confirm the mapping reflects the current version of the standard your program is accountable to before submitting it as part of a self-study.
