Assign only what they need! Introducing Assignments in the SonoSim platform

Assign, schedule, and track focused content progress. Choose specific content and tasks, set due dates, and review results in a dedicated report. PLUS scanning tasks are now in the SonoSimulator®.

New Feature: SonoSim Assignments

Today we launched SonoSim Assignments, a new way for admins to assign learners a specific set of ultrasound content from SonoSim, set due dates, and review progress without leaving SonoSim.

Until now, many instructors found the right course or scanning case and explained what to do via email, a class announcement, a PDF, or their LMS. Learners had to find the content and figure out which parts were expected. The new Assignments feature brings those steps together in one place.

What’s new

  • Focused assignments from any eligible module. Select all material or only the lessons, knowledge checks, mastery test, and scanning activities your learners need.
  • Assign to the right people. Choose a whole subgroup, individual learners, or a combination.
  • Clear dates. Set a due date, choose when learners can start, and optionally allow a late-work window.
  • Scanning instructions inside the SonoSimulator®. Assigned tasks appear within the scanning scene, so learners can read the instructions and scan the patient in the same view.
  • Assignment-specific reports. In one report, see status, late work, assessment scores, and saved images for each learner, then grade and give feedback on scanning work. Export to CSV or PDF.

Creating an assignment

Admins can create an assignment within Manage Assignments in the sidebar, or click ‘Assign’ while viewing eligible content in the Course Library or the legacy Module Assignments page. To create an assignment, you’ll:

  • Choose content. Pick a module and select the lessons and scanning tasks to include. Preview all content, including scanning task objectives and case information, before you commit.
  • Choose learners. Select a subgroup, individual learners, or both.
  • Set the details. Add a title, dates, and optional custom instructions.
  • Publish or save a draft. When publishing, you can make the assignment immediately available or schedule the start date into the future.

Each assignment is built from one module. To assign material from a second module, create a separate assignment.

Understanding the three dates

When creating an assignment, there’s a required Due Date and two additional dates:

Date What it does
Available From When learners can first see the assignment.
Due Date The required deadline. Work completed after it is marked late.
Until Date (Optional) When access to the work closes. Set it after the due date to allow late work.

Managing and sharing assignments

Manage Assignments organizes your work into Draft, Scheduled, Active, and Archived views, with filters for dates, assignments you own vs are shared with you, and current assignment status (e.g., Open, Closed).

Understanding the views

View What it’s for
Draft View and edit assignments that are not yet published.
Scheduled View and edit published assignments that are not yet visible to learners.
Active View and edit all assignments that are currently visible to learners. Assignments that are past their Due and/or Until date will remain here until manually archived.
Archived View assignments that have been manually archived. Archived assignments are still visible to both admin and learners but cannot be modified nor additional work submitted.

When creating an assignment, you are the Owner; you can share an assignment with fellow admins as an Editor or Viewer. Those with permission can edit and/or clone an assignment to reuse it within the group.

What learners see

Learners find their work under My Assignments in the sidebar. The My Assignments homepage shows all assigned assignments and their due dates; click an assignment title to see what content is included. Past-due work is clearly marked and stays open for late completion until the Until Date.

Assigned Lessons & Assessments can be completed on the web. For scanning work, learners open the SonoSimulator, go to the My Assignments section of the case list, and follow each task’s steps. Each task requires exactly one saved image. Learners can replace an image until feedback on it has been published.

How completion works

Assigned content Complete when the learner…
Lessons Views all assigned lesson pages
Knowledge check Makes the required attempt (a passing score is not required)
Mastery test Achieves a passing score
Scanning task Saves one image for that task

A completed scanning task means the required image was saved. Your grading and feedback provide a separate evaluation of quality but do not affect assignment completion.

Reports and feedback

Each assignment has its own report. The overview shows every learner as not started, in progress, or complete. Click a learner’s name to see more detail, including specific lessons and knowledge checks, mastery test results, saved images, late indicators, and time spent. Filter to work completed before the due date when evaluating on-time completion. Grade saved images and publish feedback that learners see in their assignment report.

What is available now

The majority of SonoSim content is available to be assigned. The following SonoSim content cannot be assigned through Assignments yet: Study content (Test Preps and QuestionBank), all Procedure modules, Resuscitative TEE, Introduction to Breast Ultrasound, SonoSim LiveScan® & CaseBuilder, and Challenge Cases.

Your existing PDF Module Assignments & DMS Protocol remain available during the transition.

What’s up next

  • Email notifications so learners hear about new assignments and upcoming due dates.
  • Copying assignments across groups for admins who manage more than one SonoSim group (e.g., multi-campus institutions).
  • Study Content - Test Preps and QuestionBank
