🗞️ Ultrasound Application News

Focused Cardiac Ultrasound is expanding rapidly across general practice, powered by handheld devices and growing enthusiasm for bedside diagnostics. But access alone does not ensure accuracy. Recent insights highlight a clear need for structured training, deliberate image acquisition practice, and expert oversight. As FOCUS adoption grows, simulation and supervised repetition play a critical role in building competency and protecting diagnostic integrity.

👩‍⚕️ Scanning & Imaging Tips: Cardiac Doppler Imaging

Color Doppler is a useful adjunct to help visualize the velocity and direction of blood flow. In cardiac ultrasound, it is often used to study blood flowing through cardiac chambers and valves. As such, it can be used to detect valvular pathology.

Under standard default color Doppler settings, shades of blue color signify blood flowing away from the transducer surface, while shades of red color signify blood flowing toward the transducer surface. The acronym B-A-R-T, or "Blue Away and Red Towards," can be used to remember these basic principles. The intensity of color correlates with the velocity of blood flow.
