March 2026 - Women’s Wellness Wire

The March issue of The SonoSim Wave focuses on a wide array of women's health insights that support the use of ultrasound to improve patient care.

🗞️ Ultrasound Application News

Ultrasound plays a pivotal role in identifying breech fetal presentation before labor, dramatically reducing undiagnosed cases and improving neonatal outcomes through routine third-trimester scans and point-of-care exams performed by trained providers. Effective screening supports safer delivery planning. Explore how ultrasound training enhances clinicians’ confidence in assessing fetal presentation.

⭐ Special Feature: CREOG/APGO 2026 🎉

Thank you to everyone who connected with us at CREOG & APGO 2026! OB/GYN educators and residency leaders saw how SonoSim supports transvaginal ultrasound training with unlimited scanning practice on normal and pathologic cases from real patients. This proven approach gives learners consistent exposure to OB/GYN pathology that can be difficult to encounter during clinical rotations. In addition, busy OB/GYN residency directors appreciate the ability for residents to practice at home, making them better prepared in the clinical setting.

📚 Case of the Month

Background: This 58-year-old female presents to the ED with hypoxemia (O2 saturation= 88% on room air). The patient reports progressive dyspnea on exertion over several months.

👩‍⚕️ Scanning & Imaging Tips: Using Color Doppler Imaging to Identify Retained Products of Conception

abnormuterus2_conception_doppler_7

The diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound for detecting retained products of conception is substantially increased when color Doppler is used to assess for increased vascularity. 1, 2 Increased vascularity is related to persistent vascular connectivity between the uterine vasculature and retained placental tissue in retained products of conception. Increased vascular flow is typically demonstrated within the surrounding myometrium and into the endometrium. The accompanying transvaginal ultrasound images, taken in a midsagittal view of the uterus, are from two different patients and show retained products of conception with type 3 vascularity. Note that the increased vascularity arises from the myometrium and extends into the endometrium, distinguishing it from an arteriovenous malformation.

New Module: Introduction to Advanced Breast Ultrasound

A new Advanced Clinical Module is now available to help learners develop confidence in breast ultrasound screening and diagnostic scanning. Aligned with BI-RADS® 2025, this training expands the SonoSimulator® library with structured coursework and realistic simulation cases designed to reinforce breast imaging fundamentals and reporting terminology.

In this module, learners will explore:

  • Clock-face and grid scanning techniques
  • Imaging of the breast, axillary tail, and axilla
  • Identification of normal and physiologic findings
  • BI-RADS® reporting terminology aligned with 2025 guidelines

Show All Test Attempts

You can get deeper insights into learner progress by turning ON "Show All Test Attempts". This way, instead of viewing only the latest score, Program Administrators can review every attempt a learner makes on an assessment. This is especially helpful for tracking improvement over time, identifying knowledge gaps, and understanding how learners engage with the material.
