New Module: Introduction to Breast Ultrasound – Advanced Clinical Module
SonoSim is excited to introduce a new addition to the SonoSimulator® training library: the Introduction to Breast Ultrasound: Advanced Clinical Module.
This new module expands SonoSim’s ultrasound education platform by adding hands-on breast ultrasound simulation training, combining structured coursework with realistic scanning cases based on real patient anatomy. The module is designed to help sonography students, radiology trainees, and clinicians build foundational breast imaging skills while learning the scanning techniques and terminology used in modern clinical practice.
Train on Real Patient Breast Ultrasound Anatomy
The module includes six high-fidelity SonoSimulator® scanning cases that allow learners to practice identifying normal anatomy and physiologic findings commonly encountered in breast imaging.
Simulation cases include:
- Screening exam of a normal breast
- Axillary tail (Tail of Spence) anatomy
- Axillary lymph node evaluation
- Dense fibrous breast tissue and cyst
- Lactating patient anatomy
- Post-menopausal breast anatomy
Learners practice scanning across multiple imaging windows, including the right and left breast, left axillary tail, and left axilla, helping them understand how comprehensive breast ultrasound exams are performed
Learn Breast Ultrasound Scanning Techniques
The module teaches two commonly used breast ultrasound scanning approaches:
Clock-Face Method
- Radial scanning
- Antiradial scanning
Grid Method
- Longitudinal scanning
- Transverse scanning
These systematic approaches help learners understand how clinicians evaluate breast tissue during screening and targeted ultrasound examinations.
New SonoSimulator® Scanning Guidance
To improve skill transfer between simulation and real clinical practice, this module introduces new SonoSimulator® Scanning Guides.
These guides include animated demonstrations showing probe positioning and scanning technique on a virtual patient, helping learners visualize how transducer movement affects ultrasound imaging.
Features include:
- Animated probe positioning demonstrations
- Window-specific scanning technique guides
- Narrated instructional videos with transcripts
These tools help bridge the gap between simulation-based ultrasound training and real-world scanning techniques.
Aligned with BI-RADS® 2025
The course also incorporates instruction aligned with the ACR BI-RADS® v2025 Ultrasound Manual, the first major update to the guideline in more than a decade.
The module introduces a BI-RADS lexicon lesson that reflects updated terminology, descriptors, reporting categories, risk stratification, and management guidelines used in clinical breast imaging today.
For ultrasound training programs and imaging centers, this ensures learners are trained using current breast imaging standards.
