June 2026 - Protocol Pointers

This issue of the SonoSim Wave covers MSK protocols, ARDMS exam prep, and more.

🗞️ Ultrasound Application News

A recent closed-loop audit at University Hospitals Dorset revealed how structured pathways and targeted interventions can improve care for suspected Achilles tendon ruptures. Compliance with the 14-day ultrasound imaging standard rose from 43% to 59%, underscoring how timely sonographic assessment enables faster diagnosis and treatment decisions. Read more about how structured protocols can support consistency, efficiency, and better patient care.

⭐ Special Feature: We're going to IFSER Educator’s Summit 2026 🎉

SonoSim is excited to attend the IFSER Educator's Summit on June 26-27 this month, joining sonography educators, program directors, and clinical instructors from across the country to discuss the future of ultrasound education. We look forward to connecting with the U/S Education community and demonstrating how simulation-based ultrasound training can help expand access to hands-on learning and build learner confidence.

👩‍⚕️ Scanning & Imaging Tips: Dynamic Scanning Technique

One of the most impressive aspects of musculoskeletal ultrasound is the ability to observe dynamic anatomy and its relationships, and to view structures in their full range of motion. In the clip above, the flexor tendons move and can be observed in short-axis view. Similarly, the extensor tendons can be examined to track movement and identify individual tendons. Tendon movement is better appreciated in a long-axis view in the second portion of this ultrasound video.

Pro Tip: Always compare with the contralateral side for subtle asymmetries.

💡 SonoSim Tips & Tricks

Getting the Most Out of Your Exam Prep

Whether you're preparing for the SPI exam or studying for the ARDMS OB/GYN specialty exam, consistency is key. Here are a few ways to make your study time more effective:

SPI All Scores

  • Simulate test day conditions. Set aside uninterrupted time to complete full-length mock exams. Practicing under timed conditions helps build confidence, improve pacing, and reduce test-day anxiety.
  • Review your results, not just your score. Pay close attention to your performance across different content areas, not just overall. Identifying weaker domains early allows you to focus your study efforts where they will have the greatest impact.
  • Practice regularly. Short, frequent study sessions and practice quizzes are often more effective than last-minute cramming. Repeated exposure to exam-style questions helps reinforce key concepts, improve retention, and improve speed with these question types.
  • Focus on understanding, not memorization. Certification exams test your ability to apply knowledge, not just recall facts. Take time to understand the reasoning behind each answer and review explanations carefully.
  • Track your progress. Use practice quizzes and mock exams as checkpoints throughout your preparation journey. Watching your performance improve over time can help keep you motivated and exam-ready.

SPI Mock Exam View Summary

Whether you're preparing for SPI or using SonoSim's new ARDMS OB/GYN Test Prep, a structured approach to studying can help you build confidence and walk into exam day ready to succeed.
